Seems simple, but in practice it's less so. Needless to say, no two heads are alike and just measuring your head at its widest is not always enough. Much depends on the length of your head (which links to the 'crown' of the hat) the hat style, and, not least, how you like to wear your hat (flat, or jauntily off the back 'porkpie' style, etc).
Best advice: buy from a high street shop where you can try the thing on. Buying on the net will too often lead to having to pay return postage .
