Desmond came to us in February 2010 as a starvation case from Carroll County. He ranked at a 1.5 out of 9 on the Henneke Body Condition Scale. He is now fully rehabilitated and has actually turned into a fairly easy keeper for his age. He is very sensitive on the ground and it is very apparent that someone at some point in his life put a lot of time and energy into establishing strong ground manners. We just recently evaluated Desmond under saddle. He is sound and goes w/t/c, however he needs an advanced rider. He gives us every indication of having been ridden for barrels or speed. He is very sensitive and can get easily worked up due to anticipating having to run at full speed at the drop of a hat. We are working on getting him to relax and have fun under saddle and he has already started improving. This is a great horse for someone who wants an older horse that knows the ropes. Desmond rides English and Western.
