Certainly Sen. Gordon would not want to be associated with McCain. He is trying to be re-elected in Oregon where the people from California are looked at as being to far right.
Also I love Rachel Maddow and wish Olbermann would run for political office so she could have his show. She's not a blow hard like Keith.

Throughout his career, Oregon Senator Gordon Smith has been known for his great hair and smile. Originally elected at the peak of conservative enthusiasm in 1996, he's always been more conservative than the voters of Oregon. In the Senate, he's never led on a single significant issue and never significantly challenged his party's disastrous policies. But when election approaches, he cloaks his record with moderating comments and gestures, such as these. Oregon bought it in 2002, not again.
