According to the TSB in an episode of W-Five titled "A Routine Flight":
"Even if there was an engine malfunction, it doesn't make the aircraft uncontrollable. It shouldn't cause the accident...We have to get back to what we know. We know that the engine was operating at the time of impact (becuase the prop was spinning). Historically, engine failures don't cause accidents like this."

airplane engines do not cruise at full power... in fact if the aircraft was in bad weather it might have been going slower than usual

When a plane hits the water with full power (as implied by the TSB)the props usually ARE bent - badly.

When floatplanes flip over the props are never bent.... yoiur reasoning there is dumb
