@Vuduchild Of course you don't 'catch' the punch. If you first do an evasive movement, there will always be contact with the shoulder or arm, 'measuring' the speed and distance of the punch. When that's done, you may have the possibility of taking over the attack.

@TheMatrixChosenOne i agree that every martial art is great but mma is not a martial art...;)

EVERY MARTIAL ARTS IS GREAT :X
Aikido, Karatedo, Taekwondo, BBJ, MMA, Kung Fu
People must have great minds to invent those moves. but they are different styles of martial arts
SO STOP COMPARING and shut the f*ck up.

It's funny to read all those comments of ppl that don't practice aikido, and yet they believe it doesn't work... Learning to flip & steal the center of your opponents takes time, and A LOT.
It is almost impossible to learn how to steal centers, or to flip opponents in 1 year of practice, EVEN in 2 is too yet.
For the ppl that wants to win at al cost, and want it all fast, i dont recommend aikido, cause, it won't work for them.
Aikido is for ppl that has pacience, tolerance, and will to train.

Maybe, he is the best master in Europa, or more than Dosu in Japan.

The key is commitment, you have to wait for your opponent to be 100% commited in his attack for aikido to be successful, and to take his center line.
i do aikido since i was 8 years old and i can tell you that you can defend yourself with it
i'm a small girl (about 5 feet = 1,51meters) and i had some real situations in which i was able to defend myself against much bigger guys without getting hurt....
