U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman highlights some of the components of The American Clean Energy Leadership Act (ACELA), recently passed out of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, which Bingaman chairs. ACELA contains initiatives to encourage the development of renewable energy sources, incentivize energy efficiency, and help in the transition from a fossil-fuel powered economy to a clean energy economy.
This PolicyCast touches specifically on the Renewable Electricity Standard (RES), cybersecurity, the Clean Energy Deployment Administration (CEDA), water and energy, research and development initiatives, and building efficiency standards included in ACELA. Bingaman also explains how the petroleum product reserve created through the legislation will help prevent sudden fuel shortfalls and price spikes.
utility in one state can easily draw from renewable energy sources in other states if it has to, in order to satisfy its requirement to obtain 15% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2021.
