i wonder how much he payed that kid to stand there

@remelsheikh any, as long as you have enough braid so that mono will never see daylight, just make sure to have an even layer or two of it on the spool to prevent slipping

@mikecorbeil Braid casts better too

@JL23Bih You can use 20 lb mono as a backing - it will work fine, you just will not need that much - 2 yards of mono would be enough.
Teaks for writing in and good lcuk on the water!

And I read that a stiff rod and non-elastic line was the recommendation for deepsea fishing for cod in the mid 1990s, because the cod will often bite very lightly, like nibbling, and monofil. line, so elastic line, and a rod that's not stiff will lose a lot of the bite signal, causing people to easily not notice when a cod in over 200ft of depth of water nibbles on bait. I often used only clams for bait, rather than jigs, so the cod often will bite very lightly then.

What are the advantages of using braided line as opposed to monofil. and other types of line ?
I think the answer will include that braided line is not elastic, while monofil. is. That's if the line I had bought in 1998 for fishing walleye with small jigs in deeper water and near the bottom is braided line. For these cases, I read that a stiff rod and non-elastic line was the recommendation, because the waleye can bite very lightly and elastic line will lose a lot of signal.

@mikecorbeil You are correct - braided line has no stretch and therefore allows for an instant hook set and is extra sensitive as well.
Thanks for tuning in and until next time, good luck and good fishing!
