  • You guys screen the sides too?

Or is this an area with bad gound

  • They sceen from grade to grade and then they shotcrete it all and some times pave the road with concrete.

  • What exactly am I looking at ?

Is this a road way or a development drift?

Do you have a lot of rock bursts or wierd ground conditions like more presure on the sides than back?

I work in a very siesmicly active mine ( Inco - Creighton . ) We only shotcrete in areas that look like an inverted gravel pit ( since Vale took over basicly everything is a mess like that now )

  • Bolter in a production drift pre-shotcrete. That mine was a modified block cave so the stresses move with the cave. Some drifts can shrink up to 4 feet in height and then go back up 6 feet. some times it destroys the drift but more often then not the shotcrete and mats holds up. Shotcrete like 6 inches thick tho...

  • Stillwater?

Shut up and get to work peasant.....

    That's the VALE mantra.

They will go after you if you make an issue of things. I have been stepped for stupid things.

I knew both of those young men ( not well but I knew them ) and I worked for years with the father of one of them for years.

This is not INCO this is VALE.

As low as reasonably achievable safety.

Send me a PM and we can talk, see who we know.

  • @northerbrewer - As I'm sure you know you don't have to drive under it all day if you think its dangerous. Its not worth you life. If you're not happy with it, exercise your right to refuse. Your family wants you to come home when the day is done. I worked with a shiftboss from Stobie last year at Creighton. Can't remember his name. He rides a souped up chopper and drives a Jeep.

  • @HardRokMiner

No the ground suport was not the issue.

The leaking pipes everwhere, plugged drain holes everywhere.

No plan or urgency about water control

    Bore holes into ore passes.

Stobie is a mess, but then so are the other mines.

The ground suport is rotted though.

That is scary to have to drive under all day.

  • @northerbrewer - I understand your style of screening and shotcreteing. I've worked in all the Vale Mines in the Sudbury area. I don't think the screening or shotcrete had anything to do with the 2 miners that died though. They died while working in an ore pass if I am not mistaken. I was not surprised by their deaths though. Vale/Inco thinks they are the best at mining...trust me when I say they are far from the best. They're stupid and backwards with most things. Its scary how dumb they are.

  • @HardRokMiner

    Vale formerly INCO.

We screan the back and sides.

Maybe you misunderstood we screan then shoot shotcrete over it everywhere it looks bad.

    Bad place to work.

    Hide things under the shotcrete.

Rotten screan and nbolts water all over the place.

So far they killed two men this year...

  • @northerbrewer - Where do you work that they don't screen the walls? Everywhere Ive worked we screen sill to sill.

  • Thats a bolter . It is put in ground support. Mine Im at shotcretes everything.. Makes it nicer to bolt .

  • Modified block and cave is that another name for vertical stopes. ITH the block and muck from a lower level?

Amazing your drifts change that much. If we see inches of movement we get scared, and thats with cable bolts, mechanicals, split sets, shotcrete and ribs (and every other magic bullet you can chase the rock burst monster away with)

You must have an awsome ground control team. Good work!
