The rift between mysticism and the modern sciences derives mainly from elements of scientism in the latter: certain branches of the natural sciences, broadly disavow subjective experience as meaningless, misunderstanding the limitations of the ancient languages. Physicist David Bohm speaking of consciousness expressing itself as matter and/or energy would be completely understood by the mystic, whatever his cultural/religious heritage. The mystic's attempt to describe cause and effect between one's internal state and the miraculous, hints at a close connection between psychological stability (ego transcendence) and the mysterious realm of causality quantum physicists are now deciphering - dimensional reality shifts that synchronize with states of consciousness and unconflicted choices.

Franz Anton Mesmer (1734-1815) a physican and astrologer who in his early work used magnets for as a treatment aid. He later used hypnotism and induction of trance-like states as a curative remedy for physical ailments. While Mesmer came to believe that he was able to exert a beneficial influence on his patients through "animal magnestism", he was largely regarded as a quack physician.

Franz Mesmer had a curious habit of writing in the style of alchemists, often using symbols instead of words to convey meanings or concepts.

Mesmer wrote several texts on the astrological influence on the body such as:

De planetarum influxu in corpus humanum (Über den Einfluss der Gestirne auf den menschlichen Körper; "The Influence of the Planets on the Human Body"; 1766).

  • He was simply a man who drew the wrong conclusions about the ability of people to alter their state of consciousness and the nature of suggestibility. A product of his time. Not the first and surely not the last. Mesmer actually did help people. He helped 12 year old Mozart get an opera performed in Vienna when the director scoffed at such a young person being able to compose such a thing. Mesmer wasn't evil. What man or woman hasn't let their ego get in the way of their brains?

  • @LATINCARTEL1 I agree

  • when a person can't understand something he'll get a foul impression but You be sure that he Will later on Love IT when he understands.

  • @JAGWAH66 Thank U :)

  • @araregoodguy Idiot II.

  • @LATINCARTEL1 Idiot.

  • placebo effect

  • @Zaleblackwell Mesmer there is no question that Mesmer healed the sick. The ignorant could not understand his power so they made him out to be a manipulator when he was in fact helping people. His technique was not hypnosis, that is just a label.

  • This information is not an accurate depiction of Franz Mesmer.

Infact, most of the facts here are just plain wrong.

Mesmer stumbled across hypnosis, but something else as well.

That something else is the Magnetic fluid... which still works in modern day mesmerism. Magnetic fluid just being a word to describe the unkown.

However I'm really sure that it has nothing to do with satan or anything else that the paranoid and crazy might dream up.
