It happened so fast that I bet Van didn't even have time to become nervous in the slightest. But with the time running out, it would not have been smart for Auburn to call a timeout to try to ice him. That one kick made Van Tiffin an instant and lasting celebrity in Alabama.

Kennedy and Layton called a hell of a game. Their reaction after the kick is folklore.

I was at that game and we sat in the Auburn student section. I remember how we went crazy when he made the kick. I looked around and every AU student was stunned and silent. They were also very gracious and congratulated us. They showed a ton of class that afternoon.

I agree. Bama fan too but that kind of made me sad for the tigers I tell ya!

If the ball is touched the punter is free to get jacked up. You can't have ruffing on a blocked punt. Maybe you should read a rulebook.
