The video features live music from miso (www.myspace.com/misobeats) recorded at the festival and art work from the William Ricket Sanctuary in the Dandenongs.

Drawing from Dub, Triphop and Broken Beats genres, MISO deliver a unique and captivating live experience. Characteristic of their sound is the contrast between jazz and classical instrumentation with electronic beats. This rare blend is complimented by seductive yet abstract female vocals. Miso count as their influence such bands as Portishead, Dj Shadow, Dj Krush, Theivery Corporation, Cinematic Orchestra, Electro Organic Sound System,The Herbaliser, Coda, The Bird, Entropic, Massive Attack, Bjork, Coujo, Bonobo.

"While dancing their Dreamings, aborigines spiritually connect themselves to the land and to the Dreamtime. The drumming of feet during the dance draws the earth into dialogue with the dancers, allowing the ceremony to bring the power of the Dreaming to life."

Rainbow serpent festival is a trance festival held near Melbourne which attracts close to 10 thousand people. The Rainbow Serpent is an important element of Aboriginal Dreamtime and the festival allows people from different nations to dance a common dream.

  • looks like a good time for white fellas... the only black fellas i saw where statues...

wonderfully culturally appropriated name for the event however... cheers!

  • Well at least you see white fellas connecting with the spirit of the black fellas! Shame though more black fellas don't join in, you're right.

  • they may want to connect with their own spirit and recognize that they have their own relationships to spirit and to the land to work out.

most of the black fellas i know would rather that be the case. other wise the rainbow serpent festival sounds like cultural appropriation. especially seeing how there aren't many if any aboriginal people present.

  • well I would call it more like cultural assimilation since aboriginals tended not to psy-trance in their dance rituals and the fact that there aren't many aboriginals present should not mean that white people are not allowed to learn in some way and assimilate aboriginal culture into their own. I mean most of the time it's the other way around and I think it's nice to see for once white people taking some inspiration from the people who originally inhabited this land.
