The MXS - the 'Ferrari of the sky' - is a new breed of aircraft representing the latest in state of the art design and technology. The plane was designed using advanced computer solid modeling with emphasis on aerodynamic efficiency. The MXS stands alone in that it is constructed entirely of "Aerospace" grade carbon fiber which provides superior strength and durability never before seen in an aircraft of this type. The technologically advanced MXS is expected to set a new standard in overall aircraft design for the Red Bull Air Race.

Specifications - MXS:
Seats: 1
Length: 6.28 m (20.6 ft)
Wing Span: 7.31 m (23.9 ft)
Weight: 590 kg (1300 lbs.)
Power: 350 hp
Top Speed: 426 km/h (265 mph)
Roll Rate: 450 °/sec
Max g: +/-12
Motor: AEIO 540 EXP
Wing design: Symmetric, carbon fiber
Propeller: Hartzell "Claw"
Pilots flying it: Lamb, Maclean

Alejandro Maclean said he loves his sparkling new MXS plane that he took on its maiden flight on May 18. But the Spaniard, who became the second Red Bull Air Race pilot equipped with the U.S.-made MXS, also knows that he's got a lot of work to do to fit his particularly aggressive style of flying into the sensitive, agile plane before he gets the most out of the stunning new machine.

"The plane is very good and I'm sure it's going to perform well, but I was really struggling so far" Maclean said after trading in his Edge 540. "It's much faster but it's much more agile. It's completely different from the Edge. I have some control problems due to the settings. We reset the plane and changed some things and got some faster times. Eventually, once I get it sorted out, I'll be able to fly precise and not think too much about the reaction of the plane. I'll know what they'll be. I think it'll be good. But how long that will take? I don't know whether it'll be two or three runs or two or three years."

  • Looks nothing like a Sukhoi Su-26. Different wings, different cowling, different everything. Its a completely different design.

  • "Max g: +/-12" ???

    Twelve Gs????!!! WOW!!

  • @MrROTD The MXS is a Single Seater, However the MX-2 is a Tandem Two Seat Aircraft. The Sbach 342 is without a doubt a high performance aircraft, But then again two Sbach 342's have crashed. The Sbach is great, but it is no MX. The Mx combines the fuselage of the Giles-202 with the Extra 300 wing and that combination made for a really aerobatic plane with stability.

  • @JHBorn2fly45 The Sbach 342 is a step above any plane in this class and it's a two seater.

  • Sbach 342, that is all

  • I work for an FBO and the ferry pilot for team maclean brought the airplane to our FBO, I actually got to sit in that one a few months before he died.

  • Great Pilot... R.I.P.

  • +12G is usual fot that class aicraft, but -12 is LOL. Death mashine.

    i.e. for Su-31 +12G -10G

  • R.I.P Alejandro, god bless

  • The MXS/MX2 is a Giles 202 with an Extra 300 wing mounted. This is a highly capable aircraft however i think the New Sbach 342 might take it head to head.

  • mimas sentidome pesame por el fallecimiento de un gran piloto .

  • Alex, you died in your "Ferrari" doing your favourite activity.

    Fly high & blue sky.
