Dr Heather Hackman, Social Justice—PART 1

MEA's Social Justice Institute keynote speaker was Dr. Heather Hackman from St. Cloud University, Minnesota this year. She had a lot to share in addressing bias and insight into filling in the gaps.

In Part 1, Dr. Hackman clarifies what social justice is and really looks at the issues of power, privilege and equity. For instance, not everyone has the same access to resources...do you understand what that looks like?

Dr. Hackman is an associate professor in the Department of Human Relations and Multicultural Education at St. Cloud State University. She teaches courses in social justice and multicultural education, heterosexism and homophobia in the U.S., race and racism in the U.S., and oppression and social change.

I've seen Dr. Hackman speak. Her's was an eye-opening talk on racism and white privilege in institutions and more specifically in education. I was so impressed with the way she framed things; I left more informed and able to look at society with an enlightened viewpoint. The comments below just sadden me. The views are based in fear and are expressed with anger. I don't blame people for their ignorance.

If you believe in social justice, you obviously don't understnd what "Social Justice" stands for & is the begining of!!! You need to ask my mother(My mother was born in Germany in 1928) She can tell you first hand what "Social Justice" is as thats what Hitler gave to the Germans.
