St. Valentines Day is a relatively new date on the Russian Calendar, recognised only after the fall of the Soviet Union. March 8th is Women's Day in Russia where men give their loved ones, and their female relatives, gifts and flowers. February 23rd was known as Soviet Army Day, but now Men's Day, when women do the giving. This weeks Moscow Out programme explores the customs involved, the most romantic places Moscow has to offer and also looks at the three dates of love. Lots of reasons for romance!

  • 8,500 rubles for small sculpture of chocolate? what a rip off! valentines day is overrated and has no place in russia. next there will be russian children out on the streets wanting candy celebrating halloween. just another opportunity /excuse for vulgar consumerism.
