We went to Boston on Aptil 15, 2008 for a solo concert by The Decemberists lead signer and songwriter, Colin Meloy. He was playing at The Somerville Theatre, Laura Gibson opened for him. Please check out The Decemberists website:

Buy his CD "Colin Meloy Sings Live" at:

Along with other Decemberists CD's and DVD's. You won't be disapointed!

Hoepfully I'll be able to post more of these, let me know if you like them, this was the first song and the camera work was a tad shakey. I got better as the concert went along and I was less fearful of my camera being confiscated. ;-)

This song was written when Colin's son, Hank, was born. He's two now. Here are the great lyrics!

"Wonder"

My darling, what wonder have we wrought here?
It's weird and it's wonderful, dear

An ankle, an earlobe, an elbow bone
It's weird how it wonderful grows
And it was only me and you
That made this three come out of two

My darling, what wonder have we wrought here?
It's weird and it's wonderful, dear
Oooooo
Oooooo

A'tumblin' in Dublin and next thing you know
A weird and a wonderful show
All tendons and ribcabe and beating heart
A weird and a wonderful start

And it was only me and you
That made this three come out of two
My darling, what wonder have we wrought here?
It's weird and it's wonderful, dear
It's weird, but mostly wonderful, dear

  • I actually think this song is about his wife carrying his daughter, due to the "tumblin' in Dublin" in relative time to her pregnancy and when The Decemberists played in Dublin.

  • You're absolutely right, he mentioned that at the show before he started singing.

  • This is no tortured troubadour. He marvels in wonder at the world and inspires his listeners. At least in this song.

  • I'll post more of the concert soon, mix it up a bit. This solo concert was awesome, but The Decemberists, his band, are fantastic. Thanks for checking it out!

  • @ravensky23 i prefer tarkio but he is amazing

  • Oh, if only all musicians could learn from this man. My inspiration for life, I'm not kidding.

  • truly one of the most amazing musicians on this planet.

  • well said , psycho

  • They are actually married. But I agree with the bittersweet jealousy :P

  • If I'm not mistaken, I think it's kind of like a Johnny Depp-Vanessa Paradis situation where it's not official but they're raising a family together and such. So they may as well just be married.

  • They're coming to NZ :D :D :D :D :D :D

  • Is he married? :(

  • It's a great song and it's adorable that he wrote it, but it makes me feel so painfully jealous of his wife! I guess I have to come to terms with the fact that Colin Meloy will never marry me. haha.

  • His voice is AMAZING. It's so unique. Before you hear one word you know exactly who it is. He is awesome.
