This new guitar, The Loar, just arrived half an hour ago. Thought I'd capture it raw before I change strings, break it in, etc. It is loud, although not obviously so from the piece I've chosen to play.

  • Hey Rob. Now that you have had the guitar for a few months, how would you rate it vs. other acoustic archtops you have played? Also how is the build quality? I've heard mixed things about it. Really interested in one. (your pal from jazzguitar.be)

  • @polishbroadcast

Well, it is definitely an acoustic archtop - I know that might sound obvious, but it is completely different from playing an electric archtop unplugged, if you see what I mean. I still prefer it over the Eastman I had, and that was more expensive. I could only find one problem - the wholes in the tailpiece were a little rough. I mentioned it to Thomann, and they are sending me a replacement for free. Cheers, Rob

  • @jazzguitarrob Ha. At least you didn't say whores. Yeah i was asking specifically about other purely acoustic archtops like an L5/7/12 or old Epiphone. I have an L7 reissue which is xbraced and doesn't have the focus the 16" parallel-braced guitars do. Thanks!

My guitar will be here at the end of this month ore half way in april!

anyhow, it's a the loar lh-700 aswell, so you have a special request from the 30's you'd like to hear?

maybe I can play it for ya!

  • Cheers Rob

  • your Loar 700 is beautiful. i especially love the "small" center in the middle of the sunburst top. generally the yellow part is too big, not like the old L5's. been looking for more (any) LH-700 videos as opposed to the 600. also have been waiting to see someone like yourself who plays guitar music from the period when that style guitar was popular. i'd love to get your evaluation of the 700 now that you've had it a while. likes? dislikes? if you would, please more 30's style guitar videos.

  • I just ordered this guitar to! It's so beautifull, it's an exact copy of the Gibson L5 from about 1925/1930

I will addit a hand built Armstrong single coil pickup and the Gibson L5 pickguard, I should have this guitar within 2 months, and when the pickup is on it I'll post some vids to!
