Leaving Cape Town, we fly at only 500-900 feet over the Sossusvlei Desert with its dramatic red and yellow dunes, then up the Atlantic coast to Swakopmund and on to Damaraland in central Namibia. The painterly geometrics are thanks to the saltworks near Walvis Bay. Credit to the mighty zoom lens of the Canon SX10IS and Sefofane air charters.

  • WOW! The colors are amazing! What makes some of the water red or yellow? Oh ... and the music is perfect. Up load more please.

  • Thanks. As to the saltworks, I have no idea what makes the various colours -- I'd guess different minerals or water level or ???? I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I do think that the beautiful yellow water is hydrogen sulphide from decaying plants, not a good thing at all.

  • Susan, This video is fantastic. Did you take the video yourself? What a beautiful place.

  • Thanks Gayle. I took the photographs and edited them into a video.

  • @susanbzoza The colors in the saltworks would probably be saline bacteria. The same type of bacteria that gives the Soda Lakes of the Great Rift Valley their pink-red coloring.
