Catacombs 3D

This is supposed to be the first FPS ever made, its from 1991 and was made by the same people who later made Wolfenstein 3D (which was waaaaaaay better) and Doom

EDIT: There is actually a much earlier FPS game than this one. And it even has multiplayer:

My grandad had this game on his computer. I don't know if he downloaded it or what, put I was playing this in 1992 when I was seven!

I played this game for the first time last year, played wolfenstein 3D when I was 6 or 5 on a black & white screen and PC speaker sound :D

It's really sad we don't get as many fantasy themed First Person Shooters now a days, especially ones with magic users in them. Heretic had you using weaponry still, and the roster of weapons that the Hexen Mage obtained was absolutely pathetic.

I mean, one wand, two spells, and a BFG staff? I mean come on.

@tayumapower I'm going to agree with the guy that said it's not true 3D. First FPS yes, but not the first 3D game. Maze War is more of a pre-calculated 3D which means that the all of the movements are not done in real time. The 3D aspect is also very recurring and predictable which leads me to believe that there is a limit the there is a limit to the number of scenes (original frames) that can be seen.

Unplanned pre-rendering maybe but futile.

Check out Indy 500 by Papyrus (like 89' ish).

I just checked maze war. It's not true 3d. And I believe multiplayer was more a necessity than a feature, cause probably they didn't have enough processing power to code a decent AI at that time.
