Sean Mackey, MD, PhD, will be using stimulus funds to see if real-time functional magnetic resonance imaging could be used to help relieve the agony that people experience as they try to free themselves of substance abuse. Now, thanks to the national economic stimulus program, Mackey will receive $641,559 over the next two years to expand upon his earlier work, using fMRI to register how blood flow to the brain may change under different circumstances.
