This is number 64 fast from Tommy Igoe's "Groove Essentials 2.0 The Play Along" package. Tommy lays down the gauntlet to all drummers with this book. The tunes are fun yet very challenging and you need to choose wisely between chops and groove. This tune is all about the groove and while some may feel this more straight, I feel it with a bit of swing to the groove.

  • Yeah I say put the snare back on beat one... it makes the beat so much more challenging! Other than that fantastic job!

  • More challenging?? I would disagree. Only more challenging if you are used to playing it one way and one way only which is NOT recommended. I played it many ways including the snare on one and enjoyed the feel of it without the snare on one. Less going on with the drums which leaves more room for everything else to "simmer" underneath. BirdlandBigBand (see below) "loved the interpretation on this". THAT is what it is about INTERPRETATION! NOTHING set in stone. He should know..he wrote the book!

  • Great groove Fran! You are absolutely right...it's all about personal INTERPRETATION when it comes to playing along with the G.E. songs. Thank goodness as an educator you understand and promote this mindset! As someone who is just getting back into playing after a 20 year layoff I couldn't ask for a better educational tool to use as I work on getting my "groove" back again. Tommy hit a home run with these books/songs and kudos to you for employing them in your curriculum!
