  • @gngeannakakes .... mine too!!

  • @peteacher52 Thank you for your very perceptive comments! The Decca recordings were later re-issued on London Stereo Treasury in the 1960's, still a remarkable compendium of the art of Jeanne Demessieux and the formidable sounds of the Cavaille-Coll at the Madeleine. I too bought these recordings and studied them, finding richness and tremendous power in such vibrant and exemplary interpretations. One reviewer wrote that he imagined fireworks flying from the console! Symphonic splendor!

  • @FromHolbergsTime I agree with your comment. My introduction to Demessieux's playing was with a 1950's LP of her at Victoria Hall, Geneva. Then later, her landmark 1959 recordings of Franck at the Madeleine became my introduction to the sheer magnificence of Cavaille-Coll's organ building skills. But I recall my disbelief upon first seeing a picture of the Madeleine organ; so plain-looking! Appearances can certainly be deceptive. All fine organs mutually excel each other in one way or another.

  • Beautiful playing on a magnificent Cavaille-Coll! Jeanne Demessieux (1921-1968) was title holder of this fabulous instrument at the Church of the Madeleine for many years, a post once held by Saint-Saens and Faure. I love the Demessieux compositions "Seven Meditations," "Poem for Organ and Orchestra," "Etudes," and the "Te Deum." Vierne is of course one of the great composers for organ, along with Dupre, Widor, Durufle, among others. You give us a nice sonic portrait of this historic marvel!

  • Vierne was unique! This is one of my most favorite organ works.

  • Nice rendition. With a rare picture of Vierne smiling, sort-of. But in his hand maybe we can see why he only made it to 66 years old...

  • One of the very best organs in the world!
