A conversation between Randy Cohen, the New York Times Ethicist and
the renowned Fordham Law School Ethics Professor Bruce Green.
Moderated by Lew Tesser, Director of NYCLAs Ethics Institute.
We give lip service to civility, but glorify the sharks.
We protect the secrets of liars.
We ask the court to exclude reliable evidence.
We help wrongdoers escape punishment.
We encourage individuals who have done nothing wrong to settle.
We lawfully delay and confuse.
We assist individuals to do heinous acts (eg., establish sweat shops in third world countries).
We use litigation to pummel and to deflect.
We inconvenience witnesses and jurors to settle private vendettas.
We force police off the street to testify about a $25 ticket.
Why is it acceptable for good lawyers to do bad things?
This clip was edited from a warm-up session. The live conversation on October 14 will be provocative and groundbreaking. If you can get a ticket, you should not miss this program.
