Compare historical images to learn about deforestation of the Amazon.

Use images from the past 30 years to compare the difference in forest coverage in the Amazon forest of Brazil, courtesy of the United Nation Environment Programme's Atlas of Our Changing Environment layer in the "Global Awareness" folder in the "Layers" Panel in Google Earth.

  • People are so ignorant! SAVE THE RAINFOREST'S

  • @japjapi That's terrible, I never knew it was all planned out. What we as citizens should do is let our voice be heard, say NO to the destruction of our natural resources by corporate interests, grow our own non GMO foods(and share the surplus with others), and overall live freely. We are not free people, even in the US. We have taxes, car/home payments, municipial service fees, etc. We depend on corporations for everything we use. I don't understand how is that free.

  • Thats really sad.

  • Amazon. What will the people live there do!!!!

  • Thanks for sharing this video clip for everyone's awareness. Stop deforestation, for better future.

  • Brazil does not deserve the Amazon.

  • @Jimstaa07

Although I wholeheartedly agree with that you are saying, and that this is unacceptable, I must correct you on one thing. The forests do NOT produce oxygen for us to breath. The net oxygen/CO2 exchange of a staning, old-growth forest is zero. That is, it produces as much CO2 (through decay) as it takes in, and the same goes for Oxygen. It is, however, a HUGE carbon sink that, if cutdown, would essentially release billions of tons of carbon into our atmosphere.

  • @Jimstaa07 & It's all about money.

  • i get it, i see whats being said, shown but am i being stupid by the fact that i had to really focus on the vid to understand the overlays?

  • Crazy. Why can't the billionaires spend their money to stop this? Within 40 years, the Amazon will be gone and we'll lose over 30% of the world's species!

  • It took millions of years for plant decay to make oil.

It took multi-millions of years for the massive amounts of different plants to evolve.

It took MILLIONS of years for our forests to spread, and make good soil for further expansion.

It took hundreds, and thousands of years for our trees to get that tall.

IT ONLY TOOK US 60 YEARS TO RUIN OVER 50% OF THE WORLDS NATURAL HABITATS, AND RESOURCES.

HUGE forests that produces oxygen for us to breathe are dying.

    What's wrong with this?
