This is the first road test of my new GoPro HD Hero camera. So far, I can't help but be amazed by this thing. The low light performance is really poor, and the camera is a bit bulkier than I would have liked, but the video quality is just amazingly good.

This test was just really to see how well the camera would reproduce outdoor scenery with fast motion and moderate vibration. It excelled in all aspects, including color reproduction, lighting, vibration handling, clarity of image in fast motion, and so forth. I am VERY impressed.

Further testing will progress quickly now toward the main goal, which is aerial videography aboard first my Valkyrie quadcopter, and then ultimately my EasyStar RC airplane. I expect the results to be amazing, given how well it has performed thus far. :-)

Stay tuned, and thanks as always for watching!

  • haha sweeeeet, I have the same camera :d do you trust the suction cup thingy? I always tie a string around it too and pinch it with the car window hehe

  • @Kickahobo Haha nah, didn't trust it. I made a tether out of heavy nylon "kite string" and looped it around my car mirror just in case it let go at 85mph, haha. It did great, but it would take a LOT of successful runs before I'd ever stop tethering it, IF I ever did, lol.

  • Wow, that is some of THE best picture quality I have ever seen, man.

  • @InfiniteRedPill Yeah it's pretty crazy good, isn't it? Notice that fast moving objects look streaky? That's NOT how the source footage was at all - each frame was like a snapshot, totally clean and sharp. The smearing effect came after processing, and I think it may be the result of going from the camera's 720p rate of 59.94 fps to final output of 30 fps. I'm going to try some experiments to see if I can eliminate it, which would make the video look a LOT more clear.

  • Excellent!

  • video quality is amazing - nice video :)

I love the GoPro, takes amazing footage on my RC plane; wouldn't ever want to be without one. Light metering is like something out of the stone age though, I hear the new GoPro 2 is better; but I'm not shelling out for another one just yet :)
