On Monday July 25, researchers operating the Large Hadron Collider have announced that they expect to know whether or not the elusive "God particle" exists by the end of 2012.
The collider is a 17 mile long magnetized accelerator hundreds of feet beneath the Franco-Swiss border that smashes particles together near the speed of light . Since being activated in 2008, the LHC has attempted to pinpoint the existence of a mysterious particle that could explain how mass in the universe is created and could shed light on what caused the Big Bang. The God particle — also known as the Higgs boson, after physicist Peter Higgs who helped conceptualize it in the 1960's — also aims to provide evidence for alternate dimensions beyond our own.
Backing the project is CERN, which is the European Organization for Nuclear Research. Among its many accomplishments, CERN is best known for creating a global computer network known as the "World Wide Web" in 1991.

that second picture looked like Half Life 1. funny when you think about the similarity between the scenario of that game and what they're doing
