Note: I am NOT a speedrunner, so my videos are not perfect. I'm uploading these as a way of showing people the shortcuts and glitches that I have seen online and can prove whether or not they work on the PS2 version of Tomb Raider: Anniversary. They may work on other versions, they may not. I don't know, so please don't ask me about it.
Apologies about the video quality. I don't have a means of recording my console gaming except for taping off of the television with the digital camera.
This one is a toughie. Took me many tries to get it to work, but it DOES work, and the strategy you see me use is the most reliable one I've tried. To perform this shortcut, run around to the right side of the room and go behind the pillars like you see me do. Notice how I let some of the floor crumble beneath me before I attempt to jump? That's the trick here. You have to keep Lara airborne as long as possible to allow the game time to eliminate the invisible barrier that's preventing her from grabbing that ledge that you finally see me nab. Otherwise, she'll just smack into dead air and fall below. It's not an easy shortcut, but can save you tons of time if you get it right away. Good luck.
PS: as a sidenote, if you're attempting to do a time trial for this level, it doesn't hurt to at least try to do this shortcut, as a failure will just make you drop into the pit below anyway. Therefore, it's not really a loss of time if it doesn't work.
Thank you SO much for this. There was a horrible glitch that wasn't letting me get past this room, and this really helped.
