Justin Bieber talks about playing trumpet and drums

Just a very short clip from his interview with Katie Couric where Justin Bieber mentions playing trumpet. Not much else was said about the instruments he plays (piano, guitar, trumpet and drums) as the interview went in a different direction.

Elsewhere on Youtube is a clip of him struggling to play trumpet during a radio station interview. What may not be clear right away is they hand him a C trumpet and it's obvious he's struggling because the horn is a whole step higher than he's used to and it's not his horn. (The normal pitch, or key, of trumpet for a school age student, and most trumpets in general, is B-flat. C trumpets, on the other hand, are found mostly in professional orchestras.) Even for a seasoned trumpet player who plays only B-flat trumpet, the initial change to a C trumpet is often difficult as it takes time to become accustomed to the higher pitch of the C trumpet. For a young person, like Bieber, who admittedly rarely plays trumpet anymore, it's understandable the difficulty in trying to play the C trumpet. (Just thought I'd throw that out there to help explain why he's having a hard time playing in that clip. He is probably better than the clip would lead you to believe).

About the c trumpet thing....i have been playing trumpet for 7 years and I would lie to mention that playing a c trumpet is not harder. It is simply tuned different....and the trumpet would not make his tone suck either....he just ain't good but people can't just admit it, they make excuses for him

@guitarfreek393 @guitarfreek393 Who's making excuses? I've been a professional orchestral trumpet player since 1980, I KNOW the dude can't play. Even in this clip he says he's not all that great. All I'm saying is he's probably better than that one clip gives the impression of him being. I doubt he'll ever be playing the Jolivet Concerto. ;-) But then again, with all the money he's making and women (girls) throwing themselves at him, what does it matter? ;-)

Hello! Nice meeting you! I can't say I've listened much to his music, yet. I plan on checking here on youtube as there's so much. I saw him on "Nightline" (U.S. news show) and was very impressed with his attitude. Seems like a good kid! Found out he played trumpet (I'm a trumpet player) and figured I should post this portion of an interview.
