The Maroon Bells is a mountain in the Elk Mountains consisting of two peaks, South Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak (separated by about a third of a mile/0.5km). The mountain is about 12 miles/19km southwest of Aspen, CO. Both peaks are counted as fourteeners. Maroon Peak, at 14,156 feet/4315m, is the 27th highest peak in Colorado; North Maroon Peak, at 14,014 feet/4271m, is the 50th highest. The view of the Maroon Bells from the Maroon Creek valley to the northeast is one of the most famous scenes in Colorado, and is reputed to be the "most-photographed spot in Colorado" and one of Colorado's premier scenic overlooks. . . . . This show is 6m52s . . . [Dale] note: unfortunately, the compression of the Quicktime movie REALLY doesn't do the the show justice...

We visited Maroon Bells in Sept, just after the Fall Colors arrived, pulling into the park as the rain clouds parted. It was stunning. Took one of my best all time photographs that day. Certainly a day to remember.
