Turn off the television and get a whiff of reality. America is now close to war with Iran and yet 32 million people feel it necessary to watch the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy and every episode there after.

Ignoring genocide, war, famine, imperialism, hegemony, and poverty will not make these things go away. Joining a facebook or myspace group or wearing a charity wrist band without even discussing the issue with anyone benefits no one.

But you are not helpless.

There are plenty of things to do, either political or community service. Take the initiative, do a websearch on an issue that you feel is important and then take action. Hold meetings, movie screenings, rallies, protests. Disseminate your information. Don't think outside the box, you must use a knife to collapse the box from within.

Do you not think there are consequences for our endless consumption? Will you burdern your children with the ignored problems we face today? Can you not think more than 5 minutes into the future?
