  • I feel a HQ (1080p) Recording of this would demonstrate the sax better in he recordings. The quality doesn't capture the balance, it just shoves sax in over brilliant vocals. It doesn't do Jan's playing justice.

  • @Bullring1

I can upload this same video in 1080p and its going to be the same audio quality...

  • A most beautiful piece of music with some gooooooorgeous minor chords.

The instrument which I believe is a soprano saxophone is quite overpowering in places, though...

  • Spine tingling piece of music. Heard it first on Classic FM, thank you so much for uploading.

  • All totally beautiful..........the voices of the HE and the haunting tones of the sax..... a little heaven on earth. Garbarek is brilliant.

  • Lovely piece of music... very nostalgic and soul-soothing. Does anybody have words for the last stanza? Kindly upload. many thanks..

  • I am constantly annoyed, disappointed, and finally repelled by the way Jan Garbarek overpowers so many of his musical collaborations, from the Hilliard Ensemble to Anouar Brahem to Keith Jarrett (and more). It's not that I dislike Jan's playing, per se. It's not that I dislike the sound of a soprano sax, per se. It's that Garbarek overplays, stepping all over the music, speaking too much, too often, and too loudly. Jan is more restrained in 'Officium,' but still trods on vocal textures at times.

  • I believe Garbarek has much to offer...but he has made me cringe so many times with his hyperbolic emoting that I now avoid almost all recordings on which he appears, simply because he doesn't let the music breath. It's a shame and a waste, both of Garbarek's talents, and of the musical artists with whom he collaborates (many of which are my favorites, sadly). DISCLAIMER: Of course, I speak merely from personal taste; I'm sure others don't find Jan Garbarek's playing to be "overpowering."

  • As far as I can work out there are two more verses in addition to the ones posted below. This is one of them:

    ----------------

    Remember me in pain

    With unkindness near slain

That though delay of cruel way

    That in your does reain

    Remit I say, alas away

    Remember me in pain

  • @youtubister Not Gregorian chant but Renaissance polyphony - nice!
