@jsog1 letting a little bit of water soak in the head expands it. I like to put just as much as I can hold in my one hand and sprinkle it on the head, then let it sit for a day or overnight, then there's a better bass tone. The microphone could also be hurting the bass sound though

@KINGANGELLUM pardon my ignorance, but how pouring water on a plastic head would change the sound? the bass is indeed dead.

Yeah dude that's a real pretty drum! I recommend either loosening that head, maybe pouring some water on it, or may1be changing it, because that bass sound is pretty dead. Keep playing that fuckin doumbek don!

Wonderful! I love this instrument even though it's not traditionally Greek...would be great to learn to play but I'm sure one has to start off young to be so good at it!
