how did you know what goes were? how did you get to (x+4)^2 = x^2+(x+2)^2

ah. In general, we know that a^2 + b^2 = c^2 where a and b are the legs of the triangle and c is the hypotenuse. if a=x, then b=x+2 and c=x+4 since the problem says that the sides are consecutive even integers, and x is the smallest side. Just plug into the 1st equation...

For the first problem, I don't understand why you couldn't of have used 50, 50, and 30 instead of 30, 30, and 50? Please explain.

hi again. you are looking for the triangle with the smallest perimeter! 30+30+50 is less than 30+50+50

I understood the quadratics shit at the end. But i plugged in numbers that were consecutive even numbers for the lengths of the Tri. say... Leg1: 2 Leg2: 4 Hypot: 6
well 2squared + 4squared does not equal 6squared. So it seems the equation is not legitimate.

the problem doesn't say you can use ANY consecutive even integers! 6, 8 & 10 meet the criteria and satisfy the lengths requirements of a right triangle
