That he even has got any hands left at the end. I expected at one point that they would run away from his arms.

@james4piano Koninginnedag means, dear James, that the Dutch people are celbrating that we have a monarchy. In the beginning you hear a typical song for the Dutch, connected to the royal family. Besides that he is also improvising on two other to the royal family dedicated songs. And of course a part of the national hymn.
But I agree: it is marvellous what he is playing.

This is by far the best performance. His left hand towards the end is insane. If there is anyone who could do the supposed Chopin Revolution Etude with left-hand octaves throughout (like Dreyschock supposedly did) - it would be Soerjadi - no doubt.
Since I'm American, I don't quite understand why everyone is laughing when he starts playing. Is this paraphrase on a theme of a joke type song? Also, what does Koninginnedag mean?

Hey James4piano,
I believe it was in 1994 Wibi Soerjadi gave a recital in Carnegie Hall. His encore was also composed by himself: American Fantasy. He used American songs like the national anthem. Well.. in 1991 he wrote this for our queen..in which he used Dutch songs ,including our anthem. Konninginne dag parafrase means: Queensdag Paraphrase (bithday of one of our earlier queens).
