I wasnt this biggest fan of elliots playing in other recordings but i like this. he is using more variety. the stuff he came with on his own is sick but if you hear that by itself all day, it can become numbing. but with the full arsenal on display, he sounds 10 times scarier. im about to quit the bone.
The new horn is beautiful to look at. The sound seems brighter and 'bitier' compared to the dull, burlished tone of the Taylor - almost sounds like a Rath.
Might be me, but the notes in super-fast passages on that solo didn't seem to pop into place quite as much.
I had wondered how Elliot would fit into an ensemble like this and it is interesting how he subtly changed his style - more boppish with some Wycliffe-style vocal effects.
His motif development in the opening part of his solo is SICK!

Is Elliot's horn still made by Taylor?

His tone does sound different, more brassy, than any other recording I've heard of Elliot.
I like this sound. It is cool. This is a great solo.

Elliot and the new trombone sound awesome! His solo reminds me very much of Hal Crook's playing with Phil Woods. Killin'!

Outstanding! It's nice when an unbelievable plumber gets his hands on a tremendous piece of plumbing! Bravo Mr. Mason and Mr. Corrigan!
