This is one of my students and I am a very proud teacher! Christof conducts the German CJD Youth Orchestra at the Chamber Music Hall of the Philharmonie in Berlin (14 October 2006).

  • lol, always the same question "what's the point in having a conductor?"

If you've ever played with an orchestra, you don't need to ask that question

  • am a violin player & we know what to play exactly from the notes but sometimes we may slow down or speed up without noticing...Conductor keeps us steady all the time

  • You tought him well

  • That is a really intense conductor

  • As a singer and former instrumentalist, I understand that timing is very, very, VERY important. Not everybody can sync up with everybody else, so the performers need a 'bottom line', a 'base' if you will. This 'base' is provided by the conductor. Said conductor can control the tempo, the intensity, the volume, and the rests for the entire group. This is an important role.

  • To me, the bass drum is too loud >_< It's overpowering the violins' melody

  • @missbelhavengirl Conducting is not is not simple at all, consider it the brain of the orchestra. He must set the tempo at all times, unify the performers and direct the overall sound of the group.

The Conductor should be able to play more than one instrument not proficiently but the piano & violin are the important instruments to be played.

He hires and fires musicians, in other words he is the manager & director of the orchestra.

  • @bhp123654 Given that the conductor's name is Christof, I'm pretty sure that the conductor's a boy.

  • it annoys me that the all the brass/wind players get absolutely no collection of this masterpiece, I'd say anyone could follow the beat which they probably could but I've played in a brass band and he is certainly overdoing it and has probably not said hello to one person in that band....

  • @kiroooz Does this mean that conducting is relatively simple? Does it only have to do with keeping the beat? To be a conductor, are there things you need to know in the back of your head, or is it something you can memorize kinesthetically for each song? Do you have to know how to read music or play an instrument?
