This shows early detection of overwatering and impending root rot in orchid in moss medium. I got this orchid on 23rd April and today is 3rd June 2011. Somehow the orhid was not thriving and one flower fell off. I thought the moss looked lightly packed and left it as it was. The area I had it in did not have strong sun and there were no drainage holes in the pot. So I opened it up and now I have made holes in the side of the pot and will lightly pack it and water only when moss is dry and light in colour and does not ooze water. Will keep you posted on progress.

  • Midnull, sorry to say it did not. It pulled along for a couple of weeks and then I looked at the roots again and it did not ( the final video is the one `` what does and unhealthy orchid look like``. :( :(

  • Yellow leaves if they all turn that way could be related to overwatering, the first sign of which is wrinkling and dehaydration.

  • well we have to wait and see, make sure there is a good lighted window and some direct sun for a fe hours, good watering (and drying out) and some orchid food in the right concentration at every watering. The temp needs to be about 18-25 celsius.

  • Most likely also ageing. Are the other leaves healthy? Then it would be fine.

  • That's exactly what my orchid looked like when I purchased it. The roots were in bad shape and one leaf is wrinkled and yellow. If you can please take a look at my video about my orchid cause it isn't doing well. I would really appreciate you opinion and what you think is the problem. Thank-you

  • @orchidkid01 I have seen your video, the plant looks healthy because the leaves are glossy and firm, no wrinkles. The yellow leaf you point out underneath is normal ageing. The grey spikey thing at the bottom of the plant is a new root and it looks healthy too.( the picture is blurred, but thats what I am guessing). Enjoy your orchid it looks lovely.

  • Did it survive?!

  • I will make an update video sometime this week.

  • Yes the other leaves at doing fine. They are glossy and firm except for the bottom two. I was getting scared because this is how my last orchid died :( it lost its bottom leaf first, then next until the last leaf fell. They all turned yellow.

  • I have recently notice that the leaf on the other side of the yellow one is starting to wrinkle and feel floppy...is that also normal? I really hope it is because i don't want to lose this one.
