I was 'tagged' by lukemorse1. This is my reply video, an insight mainly into my little life gaming-wise, pre-internet and pre-Tokyo dwelling. I hope this video shows that not all Western childhoods revolved around the NES, Mario, Zelda and Megaman like most N.A. centric tales would have one believe. Some were a bit more sophisticated, ahead of their time and far less cliche than that.

I still miss the grey importing heyday, sometimes now I feel like I'm caught in the middle...

I hope you enjoy.

5 facts about myself:

1. I started gaming in 1982 when I was 5 years old.

2. I have been buying Japanese games since 1989.

3. I have never used an on-line auction site in my life.

4. The first time I left England on an aeroplane was for a holiday to Tokyo, Japan.

5. The first time I went to Tokyo, Japan was on the 11th of September 2001. Our holiday started with a bang, well two actually.

Here is a photo which I found after I had completed the video so it unfortunately didn't make it in. I was one of the lucky few; a school boy with a brand new Neo Geo!:

I was quite popular as you can imagine.

Cheers.

  • Those were the days. Even though I'm obviously not in any of your photos, I cherish those memories as if they were my own - the glory years of gaming.

Shame it's all gone to shit now and Japanese devs can't keep up with the hardware race. But those old games will always remain.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed my video and it brought back some of your own memories from this special time. I would love to see other people's videos on a similar subject, especially from England or other parts of the British Isles.

  • Thank you very much.

I made this video for you mate as you tagged me a while back. Sorry for the delay.

    All the best.

    Cheers.
