LONDON (KABC) -- A protester splattered Rupert Murdoch with white foam in a foil pie dish on Tuesday, interrupting a dramatic hearing in which the media baron told British lawmakers he was not responsible for a phone hacking scandal that has rocked his global empire.
After a brief recess, the testimony of James and Rupert Murdoch resumed in a courtroom freshly cleared of the public and journalists.
Murdoch senior had removed his jacket - presumably because it had been spattered.
A man in a plaid shirt ran toward Rupert Murdoch before being struck by his wife, Wendi Deng. He was detained by police.
During the televised hearing, Rupert Murdoch declared that his appearance before a British parliamentary inquiry was "the most humble day of my life," taking a contrite tone before launching into a tense question-and-answer session with lawmakers.
Appearing alongside Murdoch, his son James apologized for phone hacking at the family's now-shuttered News of the World newspaper, telling British lawmakers that "these actions do not live up to the standards our company aspires to."
The two men were being grilled before an appearance by their former U.K. newspaper chief, Rebekah Brooks.
James Murdoch said the company acted as swiftly and transparently as possible. The elder Murdoch acknowledged, however, that he did not investigate after Brooks said the News of the World had paid police officers for information.
Rupert Murdoch's car was mobbed by photographers when he arrived at Parliament for the hearing. The scandal has spread from his media empire to the top ranks of the police.
Monday, Scotland Yard's assistant commissioner resigned one day after the police chief. Brooks was also arrested, questioned and released over the weekend.
Rupert Murdoch shut down the tabloid after it was accused of hacking into the voice mail of celebrities, politicians and even murder victims.
The Murdochs will try to avoid incriminating themselves or doing more to harm their business without misleading parliament, which is a crime.
Are people really defending Murdoch? Can you say "Bahhhhh" any louder you sheeple?

Comedian? Activist? No. That's just a coward attacking an old man. Jerks like him make life harder for genuine activists. Marbles, you're a friendless loser.

UK Parliment is a joke. Their security there is crap. Summon a guy, then he gets attacked and his wife has to defend him. What a joke. Screw UK security.
