Snail Tide
Seeping out of each secret place
Liquidly tied to a line of lace
Oozing along with fluid grace
They come with the flood of a tidal race.
In the grip of a hunger they cannot sate
Blindly they go in their frenzied state
Viscously writhing out their fate
On the blue tinged reef of shimmering bait.
The morning light reveals the stack
Of casualties, beaten back
The cluttered debris of each attack
Now hollow, lifeless bric-a- brac.
But deep in the dark of each secret place
The snails regroup for the tidal race.
