A snippet from a 1960's TV commercial for local Detroit, Michigan based department store Hudson's (long before its 2000 takeover of Marshall Field's which in 2006 was taken over by Macy's) for its PANTRY SHOP DEPARTMENT. Notice in this snippet as the woman was talking about she bought at Hudson's Pantry Shop that it was filmed outside Northland Mall in the Detroit, Michigan area (Southfield, Michigan) since it had a Hudson's store there?

  • The J.L. Hudson Company built the original shopping malls in Detroit. As a kid in the 70's going to the downtown store was a treat. It was THE store...back in the days of the old boulevard stores (like grand hotels, just for shopping). I always wondered how did the person who raised the flag way on the top of the building every day get up there... lol.

  • @jmharv2000 Those were the days...

  • Hudsons was better than Macy's hands down..

  • @andersonvillas1277 What about Marshall Field's?

  • We use to shop Hudsons all the time, especially every Christmas.

  • Hudson's "Pantry Shop" was a new idea and it was located outside of the main J.L. Hudson's store in the center of mall. The Pantry Shop was on the main level by a restaurant - it took over from some small shop (forget the name of the former shop and restaurant). The idea was to promote foods, gourmet foods from around the world; they also had an assortment of plants.

  • @jmharv2000 There use to be on in Toledo for years at the Franklin Park Mall.

  • Man, i need a time machine. northland now is a mall full of blacks unlike the 1960's.
