http://www.aibal.com/tascam-dr-05-review/ Tascam DR-05 review with audio samples.

If you're interested in the Tascam DR-05, you're probably also looking at the Zoom H1. Both devices offer comparable features and are priced similarly at around $100.

What I've found with DR-05 is that it offers a superior build quality, button controls, display and software menus. That's a lot of benefits to consider over the Zoom H1.

The Zoom H1, on the other hand, is a slimmer and lighter unit that features mics placed in a X/Y arrangement.

Is the Tascam DR-05 right for you? Watch my video review to find out, and keep in mind that all the audio in the review (my voice over) has been recorded with the DR05.

  • Can you use this mic as a USB microphone (like a Blue Snowball for example) and record live audio with it? Thanks.

  • @TIRanald Nope. It's not a USB mic. The cord is only for charging or file transfer.

  • @AibalReview does the USB provide power as well if you didnt want to use the batteries or external power supply ?

  • @leefuji Yes. You don't need batteries in the unit at all if you're connected via USB.

  • Good video. Thanks for the info.

  • Could we use this to record our band for promo cd's and for recording acoustic sessions?

  • Great job on the video.. I just bought one.. Thank you!

  • @intentionsmusic These portable Tascam recorders don't interaction with computers (aside from USB file transfers). They simply record audio to a file on an SD card. Thus, there are no compatibility problems with Apple hardware.

  • don't know about this particular product, but if you're thinking about buying a Tascam, be sure to look beyond the technical merits. They have a pretty bad reputation regarding their customer service, especially regarding Apple. See for yourself, go here and take your pick, there are a lot of angry customers regarding several Tascam products that are left unsupported: (can't place a link, so look for apple discussions on the internet)
