Dont get me wrong I love all these guys. But after watching and listening to so many Skynyrd songs there are just no versions at all that are as good as the studio versions. So Collins is definitely the best. The first few notes to That Smell have never been done as well as the original, and as much as i like medlock and others on Freebird....none of it is any where as near as good as collins.

At any given time, I think Gary was probably Skynyrd's THIRD best guitarist, behind Allen, Steve and Ed King. Still great, though

@shifter214 I can guarantee you that the outro guitar solo on the original studio version of Freebird is ALLEN COLLINS ONLY...and I am 99 percent sure that Gary never doubled lead on Allen's solo when playing Freebird live. But later when Steve joined they came up with the idea of Steve doubling Allen on the latter half of the Freebird solo.
Examples of true double leads between Gary and Allen: Simple Man, I Need You, Working For MCA. In the studio Allen doubled himself on Freebird.

I think the title of this video should be changed : "versus". Skynyrd and the Outlaws are all buddies and "versus" means to fight/compete. With so many tragedies on both bands, I think the word "union" would be more fitting.
