Fyrst Tryp, unsigned Houston band performing 100% unrehearsed spontaneous psychedelic rock improvisation, jammed nonstop for ninety minutes (a record for them) Thursday 7/9/09 at Catty Corner Ice House in Garden Oaks. I got the first hour on vid, but my Flip has only an hour capacity, so the last half hour of this SONG (!) and the amusingly brief but brilliant second set/number were recorded only on someone elses audio cassette and possibly another vid. If you shot video, I hope youll post it cuz it was tight.
I call this video The Magic Hour because in the hour's time that elapsed during the performance of this one song the sky went from sunlight to dark. I've been told that among Hollywood cinematographers dusk, the transition from light to dark is called the magic hour because the light produces the most pleasing film images. Only a suggestion of course. Fyrst Tryp may change it and/or the track designations which are my best guesses. It's hard to cut up into tracks when they won't stop playing! 8D
Fyrst Tryp is:
denniS Walker, lead & rhythm guitar, synth, vocals
Starr Jernigan, lead & rhythm guitar
Lana Silvers, Bass
Sherri Walker, flute, sax, keyboard
Ed Martinson, drums Chaz (Last name TBA), keyboard
Juan Ucedo, percussion (He played in the second set but is not in this video.)
As some of my friends know, denniS and I started Fyrst Tryp; I played keyboards. I dropped out to focus on visual art and writing but I love these guys, they keep getting better and better. I am prejudiced Im sure. Who knows, someday I may sit in, but not anytime soon SHERRI.
Brilliant work, kids! Keep taking me into SPACE!
If anyone has suggestions for the names of these tracks, we'll certainly consider them. (from denniS)
