my s 8003 is showing DNS failed after setting up the email account....is tere ant way to rectify this prob

I used to be able to access my gmail account and for the past six weeks i keep getting that the browser functionality is turned off. Have tried everything including electing the accept all cookies. I saw a posting by someone to look for the gear under the status bar of any google product broswer and work from there. Maybe I am having a blonde or senior moment. but i not finding this gear icon thing. Can some one be so kind as to help me???
