In this 1961 performance, fifty-seven year old Nathan Milstein (1904-1992) performs the Tchaikovsky violin concerto in D major, Op. 35. William Steinberg leads the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. I created this video from the extremely rare LP shown above (4:12), issued in 1962 on the Angel label, serial number 35686.

So that there is no question in the mind of those as to the provenance of the recording to which they are listening, I rely principally on images of the LP (side 1, 4:12; side 2, 24:16) and LP jacket (front, 4:48; reverse, 29:06) in order to document the authenticity of historically important recordings such as these.

1. Allegro moderato
2. Canzonetta - Andante (16:58)
3. Finale - Allegro vivacissimo (23:22)

  • レコードか。浜崎あゆみと匹敵し劣らないIsaacSterne Tchaikovsky violin concerto

    361人しか見られていないんだな。神業、これは素人です。それこそが本物の音楽です。

    recordはあるが、音声だけで十分だが、DVD買おうかな。

    日本人にも聞く耳があるやつがいることを、伝えたい。

  • milstein has the most fantastic articulation ever, love him

  • Out of the huts of history's shame I rise Up from a past rooted in pain I rise I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, Welling and swelling I bear in the tide. Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear I rise Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise I rise I rise.
  • wonderful :)

  • such clean playing, and then before you know it he's also the ultimate romantic , really gets me every time with Milstein. He gets even better and more lyrical as he goes along, the sound becomes ever warmer...not just blasting at the same level all the time. He can be so cool and at the same time so personal.
