Total Eclipse on Hao atoll - 11 July 2010 - timelapse

Shortened movie of our eclipse observations on Hao Atoll, Tuamotu Archipelago, French Polynesia, June 11 2010, notice how the winds increased during the film, and backed off once totality was over, and the loveliness of the "cosmic dimmer switch" effect that you see as the sun vanishes and reappears.

We were very fortunate with the cloud, since other locations less than a mile or two away caught only a few seconds of the middle of the eclipse. We saw a few moments filtered through moving cloud, but the majority was clear!

The crackling on the soundtrack is wind noise on the camera mic (Canon Powershot D10), and the movie was edited to speed up the film to 6x normal.

Between us, we took almost 200 images during the 3m 30s of totality (we rehearsed photography sequences that we could perform without looking at the cameras - because that way we could watch the wonderful sight at the same time!).

The disk has content provided by several people from the BAA, including some nice video of our arrival on this paradise atoll. (I even get a walk-on part in a couple of the other people's material!).
