personally i like games more of course. but the paper mario series are great. like you said, story and gameplay are perfectly balanced. that's what games must be like.
for example, the subspace emissary was a bit too long for a story. and it's boring if you play it a second time. so that's... not balanced.
@lucariokiddo Ultimately depends on genre but even with the right genre, the story could be a little much. The Paper Mario series, RPGs, has the right balance between story and gameplay, even though you'd expect an extremely long story. If I wanted an extremely long story, I'd read a boring book because if I am playing video games, I want to stray away from boring stuff like reading books. Stories should aid gameplay, not so much be the main attraction.
@wildgoosespeeder if you ask me, games most have a long AND good story. like, a kind of story that makes you keep playing because you want to find out how it ends. it isn't fun if a game is too short.
@lucariokiddo Games today seem to be getting shorter and shorter compared to 10-20 years ago. Portal 2 is one such example. Although Portal 1 was even shorter, that was an experiment that blew up in Valve's face way harder than they expected. Portal 2, there was no excuse to have a short story. It took me a day to get through the single player story. I wanted 2-3 days worth at the least. $45 I paid for it and I felt ripped-off.
@wildgoosespeeder i know. i saw you made videos of it.

@lucariokiddo I play SSBB for battles with friends or online, not for the story mode.

This is just something to expect with Sonic games. Go too fast and the games just freak out in so many different ways.
