It does sound like ferman. However he could have mumbled or grunted that a into it. Do you ever hear people in the U.S. do that? But yeah, it sounds a little too close to "ferman" to be "fer-i-man". The thing is that it makes no sense without the 'a' in it. Think about it. Man and mankind are the same thing.

turn your speaker loud and listen very close, he says "for man" sounds like "ferman" theres no pause or anything for and "a". not trying to argue, maybe im wrong but still , take a listen

It must have been cut off, because there is a reason why I used to not understand half of what it meant. It's because: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" makes no sense. Man has the same meaning as mankind. However, if you say A man then it makes sense because it's talking about himself, not the whole human species.

listen again closely man at 2:25, sounds like hes saying, "that's one small step ferman" there's no pause or anything for an "a", even if he said it very quick, you'd hear the "a"

he said "one small step for man" when he and everyone at NASA claims he said "one small step for A man", but the "a" was cut out during the transmission listen at 2:20 and on and see if you can tell
