A short video showing a neon tube being lit with my 4,000 volt power supply. This uses two microwave transformers in series, with a 300 watt light bulb for current limiting. You can hear the battery backup on my computer beep from the current surge when I first switch on the power. You'll see the tube flicker and hear the fan spool up as I throttle the voltage up and down. At full voltage, both the neon tube and the light bulb are so bright the camera gets overexposed at one point.

  • i thaught that MOTs put out direct current?

  • no, they're just a simple step-up transformer. It's AC. All they do is increase the voltage. Microwave ovens do use a rectifier and capacitor to convert it to DC and double the voltage for the magnetron, but the transformer itself is just high voltage AC.

  • is the louad noise a coling fan or smothing

  • Yeah, that's a fan I have to keep the light bulb cool. (I use the light bulb to limit current and prevent overloading the transformers.)

  • nice sun in a tube

  • That's a beastly machine. I have a 6.5 Kv transformer that is the size of a small tissue box

  • Two microwave transformers in series. *points to video description* :P

  • try drawing arcs from it

  • make a light rig with this while holding the battery backup and walk around your neighborhood at midnight. (a mirror tied to the back would help as well to direct the light to the windows and away from your face)

  • how can this be put to daily usage>

  • oh, i didnt know that.lol

  • cool how did you make that 2000 volts machine
