Our first day out wrapping this year, Saturday 21st March 2009! Definitely the earliest we've ever made silage. The grass hadn't been cut last year and the farmer wanted it tidied up in preparation for this summer. Shows a John Deere 6910 baling in the field, bales being drawn back to the yard with a New Holland, Case MX135, and MF 390, and wrapping with a JCB 531-70 teleporter and McHale 991BER wrapper with Lombardini powerpack. Apologies for some of the jumpiness in places. The camera was acting up a bit on the day so it skips a frame or two.

  • is this in sallins by any chance ?

  • It is actually, down in millicent. You must be a local so??

  • Nice clip.... would love to know how this silage turns out!!

  • It didn't turn out too bad at all in the end! Well feed quality was probably way down but it went into silage, no waste at all really. he ended up selling it in April/May for a nice profit. Wonders will never cease!

  • jes march is awful early, the last bales we mad in 2011 was like the 21st of november. a lad we do baling for will have a field rey in about 1 month if he gets the weather

  • Oh yeah I forgot about bales getting stuck in the chamber! That used to be annoying but you could bolt on two gripper plates on the door and that used to improve things

  • The net can be an absolute arse sometimes and the bales can get stuck in the chamber, other than that, fine.

  • Not mine, I just drive for the owner. Have done loads of work with 578s though over the years. The bossman has moved onto a McHale F560 in the last couple of years which is a far superior baler but the 578 was a good machine too. As a contractor's machine its a bit dated (mainly due to lack of a drop floor) but would do 100% for a farmer with a bit of silage/hay/straw for himself. Fairly reliable too, don't ever remember anything major going wrong with them.

  • well no, but my relations used to live beside that field when i was younger. is there loads of old barn buildings on the way into that feild ? an is there train tracks that run up along the back of it ? if so thats definitly the one.

  • Great Video, That silage will come in Very handy, especially if we get another winter like last year!

  • WE UP HERE IN DONEGAL
